Frequently asked questions

What is a "Claude Code pet" or "Codex pet"?

A desktop pet for Claude Code / Codex is a small visual companion that lives on your Mac desktop and reflects the current state of your AI coding agent. Clauk is a cat that animates differently depending on whether Claude Code is thinking, running tools, waiting for input, or done.

What's the difference between the free trial and the full version?

The trial gives you the full Claude Code integration — status display, speech bubbles, drag/click interactions — for 3 days from first launch, no sign-up required. Character switching and custom pets (appearance settings) are full-version only. After 3 days the status integration pauses and a purchase prompt appears; the Claude Code plugin link carries over to the full version.

Do I need Claude Code to use Clauk?

Yes, the state display requires Claude Code or Codex CLI hooks integration. The cat itself can be dragged, clicked, and resized without them, but the real value comes when paired with an AI agent.

Can I change the character?

Yes. Clauk follows the OpenAI hatch-pet spec (1536×1872 / 8×9 / 192×208 spritesheet). Any compatible sprite works — including ones generated by Codex CLI.

What are the system requirements?

macOS 13 (Ventura) or later. Apple Silicon (M1 or later) only. Windows and Linux are not supported.

Is this an official Anthropic / OpenAI product?

No. Clauk is an independent project by studio.shigure and has no affiliation with Anthropic or OpenAI. "Works with Claude Code" describes the functionality only.

Are updates paid?

No. One-time purchase — all future updates are free via Sparkle automatic updates.
